| With
the crash of the Internet Bubble, many businesses shied away
from the Net. Now, the Net has become a way of life and businesses
are scrambling to get back on line.
Technology
has now placed online shopping and browsing into the homes
of most Americans and a large percent of the world. Unlike
a retail store, your web site can be open 24 hours a day,
7 days a week, and 365 days a year. And getting onto the Internet
can be relatively inexpensive; however, getting results from
your web site is a whole other story.
After
the great technology crash of 2000 a lot of online enterprises
simply folded. You read about all the failures, but what hasn’t
been highlighted as much are the opportunities that have just
been created. With some of the big boys out of the picture,
this means less competition or does it?
It
is clear that the major search engines like Google are moving
into a revenue producing mode of advertising. It is no longer
as simple as submitting your site through an automatic search
engine submission tool and getting a good listing. Complex
algorithms, increasingly more advanced spiders and robots
are making it much more difficult to get good search engine
placement across the search engines.
To
make matters even more complicated, each search engine has
different criteria for its selection process. For instance,
what may give you good results on say Alta Vista, may negatively
affect your ranking on Yahoo. So you need make certain you
know what you are doing before you start submitting your site
to the search engines. A good rule is to not launch your site
until you have taken care of your search engine strategy first.
But
search engine placement is only one of many factors affecting
your online marketing. Banner advertising, email, linkage
programs are also integral components. Further, your site
itself, similar to direct marketing through the mail, needs
to be thoroughly thought out and created. Some people make
the mistake of adding too many bells and whistles such as
graphics and animation which may only distract your viewer
from your underlying sales message. Good old fashion copy
writing is a must. Professional appearance is a must. And
don’t forget about appropriate use of graphics and photos.
And how about setting up online lead generation, online databases,
and online stores? The list goes on.
And
you remember the importance of testing, well that applies
to your Internet marketing as well. You better be able to
track the effectiveness of your copy, offer, and timing as
well as the response from any advertising campaigns you have
out there. Same goes for those search engines. You will need
to know what search engines are performing and which ones
need to be worked on. Too many people fail to analyze even
very basic
data which can yield volumes of information on how to increase
your marketing effectiveness on the world wide web. By paying
attention to your data, you can modify your online marketing
efforts to explode your profits.

Internet is here to stay and any business not utilizing the
Internet is surely missing out greatly. International Club
